Lionsgate has had a ton of success with the young adult movie genre in the past. They have had multiple blockbuster franchises on their resume, including both Twilight and The Hunger Games franchises. Both are billion dollar successes, while the two The Divergent Series films have managed to gross over $500 million dollars worldwide. With that in mind, the newest chapter in the series is just around the corner.
If Pixels hadn’t slid in to save the day, The Divergent Series: Insurgent should have taken the prize for the biggest waste of two hours at the theater in 2015. However, it still gets the constellation prize for the most ridiculous title of the year and this year’s sequel rolls off the tongue just as uncomfortably. The Divergent Series: Allegiant is the third film in the franchise and it keeps getting even more bizarre.
The trailer seems to expand the world of The Divergent Series, by taking Tris outside the boundaries of Chicago and embracing its science fiction trappings. All the special effects aside, the most incredible feat that this movie has pulled off is the amazing cast that has come together. Get a load of the talent that has been assembled, including Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Miles Teller, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, and Daniel Dae Kim. How can this fail? Many different ways… We will see all the of them this March or we won’t… Enjoy the trailer.
Official Synopsis:
After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago.
