It is hard to deny that Vin Diesel has charisma. He is a driving force behind one of the biggest action franchises ever. He has trail-blazed how celebrities can interact with their fans on social media. He plays Dungeons & Dragons in his spare time. for the role of Groot, in Guardians of the Galaxy, even though all that was required from him was to say three words into a microphone. He is a one of a kind. He is Vin Diesel. And you know that the moment he is on-screen, which might be the problem…
The newest trailer for The Last Witch Hunter stars Diesel as Kaulder, an immortal warrior who has been battling evil for centuries. Perhaps things will turn out different when the actual movie begins, but Diesel does not blend in with his environment. It almost looks like they should have renamed the movie Vin Diesel Fights Witches, for clarity’s sake. Things get even more surreal with the addition of Michael Caine. Who is doing his trademark Caine monologue, in his trademark Caine fashion. Although…it might be worth the price of admission to see Caine bounce jarbs off of Diesel’s wooden persona. And the wild card of course is Elijah Wood who has shown in recent years, in movies such as Sin City and Maniac, that he is not afraid to go nuts on film.
Lionsgate will be releasing The Last Witch Hunter in the fall, when there will be less action-movie competition. The film will be an interesting test of Diesel’s star power, after having one of the biggest movies of the year. In a era, where the movie star means less to the box-office, it will be fascinating to see if Diesel’s fan’s follow him, after the goodwill generated from Furious 7. We will find out soon. Enjoy the trailer.
