It’s hard to make a comedy on TV that feels like it hasn’t been done before. There have been countless sitcoms about family life, growing-up, high school, there has even been a show about nothing. Well it looks like Will Forte (Saturday Night Live, Nebraska) is about shake up the comedic formula and eliminate the entire supporting cast. Like everyone…Just a camera and Forte. Forte and a camera.
Forte’s latest creation is TV show called The Last Man on Earth. Forte plays Phil Miller, a man who is seemingly the last human left alive on the planet. Does that get him down? It doesn’t seem like it. It is also worth noting that his character Phil Miller, uses the first and last names of the talented duo who will be handling directing chores for the pilot episode. They are also the creative minds behind the The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street franchises. Miller and Lord are literally some of the most sought after talent in Hollywood, so it would seem that the TV series is in good hands. Forte is the creator of the show, however according to Collider, Miller and Lord worked closely with Forte in writing the series’ first few episodes.
This series looks hilarious. At its base, they have taken the isolation of the overused apocalypse scenario and turned it on its head, by transforming it into a wish fulfillment show. It should be a treat to see the different situations that Miller gets himself into week to week. It is also hard to imagine that he won’t be running into guest stars as well. Enjoy the brief trailer.

The year is 2022, and after an unlikely event, only one man is left on earth: PHIL MILLER (Forte), who used to be just an average guy who loved his family and hated his job at the bank. Now, in his RV, Phil searches the country for other survivors. He has traveled to every city, every town and every outpost in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and has found no one, which leads him to the painful realization that he is almost certainly the last living being on the face of the earth. Sure, there are some positives that come with being the last person on earth. You can go live in the White House if you want. You can park in handicapped spots without an ounce of guilt. You can decorate your home with priceless works of art. You wanna wear a pair of tighty-whiteys and nothing else every single day of the year? Not a problem. THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is a comedy about a man trying to make lemonade out of the most soul-crushing lemon there is. But if anyone can do it, Phil Miller can. He’s not about to give up now.
