Box Office Report – ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Changes the Timeline

The Fault in Our Stars took the top spot at the weekend box office. The drama starring Divergent’s Shailene Woodley pulled in an estimated $48 million dollars. Maleficent slipped to second place with $33 million dollars, continuing it’s healthy run. The biggest disappointment of the weekend was the Tom Cruise vehicle, Edge of Tomorrow. The high-concept action film made an estimated $29 million dollars. Despite good reviews (read P.o.G. review) and impressive trailers, it failed to connect on a large scale with american audiences while performing well overseas. Fourth place was occupied by X-Men: Days of Future Past which should cross the $2oo million dollar mark next week. Rounding up the top five was A Million Ways to Die in the West with $7 million dollars. Here is the complete box office for the weekend of 6/6-6/8:

Next week will see the release of How to Train Your Dragon 2. We will see how this shakes up the top five, since its a family film with wide appeal. It’s possible moviegoers seeking slighty more mature action, could be drawn back to Edge of Tomorrow by word of mouth. We will find out soon.
