Funerals
According to our sources, Captain America: Civil War will end up being one of the more bittersweet films Marvel Studios has produced. Last summer there were reports and photographs from a huge funeral that was being shot for the film. Many had speculated that this funeral was for S.H.I.E.L.D. founding member Peggy Carter, since Chris Evans as Steve Rogers is part of the processional. This was completely accurate. Unless things change further in post, the plan for Captain America: Civil War is to bookmark the movie with funeral scenes, one at the beginning and one at the end.
What was previously shot was indeed a funeral scene for Agent Carter and it’s scripted to occur near the opening of the film. However, what was shot to appear at the end of the film, may be shocking to many who feel that Marvel hasn’t had the guts to make dynamic changes to the Marvel cinematic universe. What is coming next is an even bigger spoiler, so do not read below if you don’t want to know the fate of certain Avengers in Captain America: Civil War.

The Death of Captain America
Towards the end of the movie, Rogers will surrender after coming to terms on a treaty with the government, that will protect his friends and allies. At some point, either after or while he is being taken into custody, he is assassinated. At the funeral there’s a palpable tension, with most people seemingly focusing their ire and fury towards Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.
In the first Avengers, Rogers and Stark get into a heated war of words and Rogers states, “You’re not the guy to lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you.” His death will ultimately tie back to that statement thematically, as he will sacrifice himself for the good of his team. So it seems that Captain America: Civil War is not only inspired by the “Civil War” storyline from the comics, but also has elements of “Fallen Son.” Marvel has come under heat for not raising the stakes for its characters and this is a strong direction to take.
Captain America’s Shield
Marvel has adopted a strategy of shooting scenes in multiple ways, which gives them flexibility to adapt to both the constantly evolving marketplace and the needs of their interconnected cinematic universe. If a certain character becomes a fan favorite or if one doesn’t www.buyambienguide.com connect with audiences, they give themselves the flexibility to change course. With that being said, we have found out part of the resolution of the death of Captain America.
One scene was shot three ways, involving three MCU characters individually picking up Cap’s shield at the end, leaving an opening…for a new beginning. Or at the least an amazing button scene. The three characters that were shot picking up Captain America’s shield at the end of Captain America: Civil War are Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) aka Agent 13, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) aka The Winter Soldier, and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) aka The Falcon.
Right off the bat it would seem that Carter is the most likely red herring. She has only appeared in one film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and really hasn’t registered on the radar of Marvel movie fans. Carter is much more fleshed out in the comics and her returning role signals an increased presence in Civil War. In addition, she will be Rogers’ love interest in the film, much like at points in the comic. However, this option is clearly a long shot and its hard to see Marvel going in this direction with more established options already in the can.
The Falcon is always on Cap’s “left” and it’s clear that he has been prepping for the role both within the MCU and in the pages of the comics. In 2014, he was appointed the new Captain America by an elderly Steve Rogers. He has been the reigning Cap in the Marvel NOW comic series and for the foreseeable future. Actor Anthony Mackie has been an outspoken advocate for the Marvel brand, while steadily gaining popularity and even appearing in last summer’s Ant-Man. However, the last option seems even more likely.
While Captain America: The Winter Soldier told its own story, it certainly was inspired by “The Winter Soldier” storyline among others. Whether he was catching the shield or momentarily wielding it for effect, there was more than one allusion to Bucky Barnes “being worthy” of the Captain America title. So it’s fully possible that Marvel is leaving the possibility open to loosely follow the post Civil War story, where Bucky inherits the mantle. Plus, a large part of the emotional arc in Civil War involves the friendship between Bucky and Rogers. So having him literally pick up Cap’s legacy would be poignant and powerful if handled correctly.
While they have shot the scene three different ways, we honestly don’t know what the plan is for any of the shield bearers, or if it’s simply fan service. Anything truly is possible with the presence of the infinity stones floating around Avengers: Infinity War, even the resurrection of Captain America. However, before we look too far into the future, let’s keep the speculation focused on what we know for Civil War. The sequel is showing all of the signals and indications that this could be one of the best Marvel movies ever. Luckily there will not be a long wait to find out…
Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6th, 2016.
