Experience Vertigo in the Awesome Teaser for ‘The Walk’

After taking a few years to experiment with CGI and motion-capture technology, director Robert Zemeckis (Castaway, Who Framed Roger Rabbit)  jumped confidently back into dramatic filmmaking with Flight. Zemeckis has always been drawn to bigger than life stories and his latest project fits the bill. The Walk is a biographical tale of high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who in 1974 attached a cable between the two World Trade Center towers and performed the ultimate high-wire act.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Looper) stars as Petit, the French daredevil who performed the impossible feat. Petit didn’t merely cross, he went across eight times while performing tricks and putting on a show for 45 minutes, while early morning New Yorkers watched with both awe and terror. There is also a great documentary about it called Man on Wire, that should give you some great background on the caper.

The story should be intriguing on two fronts. Hopefully there is a strong emphasis on the actual heist. How did the 24 year old, with the help of accomplices, actually pull the caper off? The real story involves Mission Impossible style impersonations, complete with surveillance, fake I.D.’s and clothing. The second part is the actual impact of the walk. It is clear that the visuals will probably surpass our expectations. I caught a flash of vertigo just watching it from my laptop. This looks like a winner. Check out the trailer.

Official Synopsis:

Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy, and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan.

The Walk hits theaters on October 2nd, 2015.
